SPOILER ALERT!

A Story By An Earthworm In Compost

My name is Wiggle. I'm here to inform a tale. I'm an earthworm who lives in a very compost bin.
I am a reddish color. I am a narrow tube like a straw with the ends tapered off. I am an earthworm. One of 1000's of kinds. I like residing in compost and I feel lucky because although I can and will be eaten by fish I am not a night crawler, sold to anglers. I am a red wiggler sometimes called redwriggler. I am loved by gardeners because I make soil better for plants. It is an easy life personally. All I do is eat and poop.

I am a straightforward animal. I live within the dark because I usually do not have eyes. Instead of eyes I have light-sensitive cells that detect light intensity. I tend not to go in bright sunlit areas if I can avoid them. I am pleased on this compost. It has nice food, not merely dirt added regularly. I have a brain, mouth, crop, gizzard and intestine as well as 5 heart like organs. I don't need lungs because my skin allows oxygen for sale in the soil to secure. That is one more reason I steer clear of bright sun. I normally dry out simply. In the compost,I burrow deep enough to remain moist. It is also snug when it's cold out.
I am simple but my muscles allow me to change shape rapidly. I have tiny bristles which a human must look very carefully to find. I use these bristles to anchor my front-end then my muscles pull my tail forward then that end anchors and my front end goes forward. These bristles are handy when a bird really wants to eat me because I can stick to the earth in fact it is hard to allow them to get me out!
Those muscles I was telling about assist me to to burrow. By burrowing I loosen earth, rendering it crumbly plus it holds moisture better, good personally as well as the plants within the garden. I am not a picky eater. I will eat whatever is around. I do not go very deep, I burrow, not tunnel, as a few other worms do. I eat stuff like thatch, the dead when combined live plant matter at the surface from the ground. Thatch keeps water and fertilizer from being made available to the soil. This is much like the grass clippings and small branches or yard debris put inside the bin. If I am hungry I eat my weight in food every single day. Usually to expect half that. I don't decide to eat dog or cat poop but I love yummy cow and horse manure. I usually do not like salt, it dries me all up. In the compost bin I go to the leafy greens, potatoes, tomatoes, coffee and tea grounds, rice, grits, green pepper and I love usual paper. I want to keep slim so I avoid fatty stuff. High acid foods like orange, lemon, lime and hot pepper in way too high amounts will kill me i really do not eat them!

When I digest this food my droppings called worm castings make fantastic fertilizer. My system raises the nitrate, phosphorus, magnesium, potash and calcium levels accessible to plants in the soil. My castings could be sold as organic fertilizer through the owner of my bin.

I, Wiggle, have told my story of living an easy to use life in the wood compost bin approximately a couple of years, as well as as much as 10 other worms in each square foot area. I am happy to produce organic fertilizer from a compost to boost the soil with the garden. I am lucky that I weren't eaten by the bird or a woodchuck visiting my wood compost bin.

Tomatoes - Six Easy Steps to Maximize Yields of Big Juicy Ones in Small Home Gardens

A chemist once explained to incorporate Epsom salts to the soil where I set my tomato vegetables. It proved helpful with a large degree. Yet, other activities may also be implemented to increase their overall yield. After growing tomatoes over a tiny plot for quite a while, I do six circumstances to maximize my tomato yield. The plot itself is located in a sunlit place having adequate quantities of late-afternoon shade and an adequate water supply.
1. Have good soil. Make sure the plot soil is rich with compost and humus, which is self-draining whenever you can. Mix in grass, leaves, garbage, manure or anything to make it doing this over time. The dirt should be easy to discover, cultivate, and turn into resistance against becoming sticky, like clay.
2. When planting, add combination of Epsom salts and basic fertilizer. When setting the starter plants, increase the risk for hole fairly deep, 8-to-10-inches, which can be deep enough to bury the seedling or starter plant no less than halfway to the dirt. Then, before setting the guarana plant, add to the bottom of the hole a cup of the 1:1 blend of off-the-shelf drug-store Epsom salts and basic granulated fertilizer (component ratio: 10-10-10 to 13-13-13). Add a shallow layer of soil. And then, set the plant atop it.
3. Set out four-to-six varieties. A variety of early to late producers not simply ensures a long growing season, yet it's also a defensive measure. If a blight comes upon the plants, it in all probability will not damage all of them simultaneously. The seasonal climate and personal taste could be considered when scouting for varieties. Our Midwestern climate it fairly mild, and we like all tomatoes, from your cherry to beefsteak-types. Yet, our plot holds only six tomatoes.
4. Stake or cage the plants less than far apart. Large gardens easily enable the plants to become distributed by 36-inches or more. These lucky gardeners generally are master pruners at the same time. As a result, their well-spaced plants appear naked with highly visible easy-to-pluck fruits.

However, in small plots, the plants need to be spaced by 10-to-14-inches. Stake or cage them in order that they will grow upwards whenever you can. The idea is always to come up with a tall heavy thicket of plants under whose foliage multiple fruits will grow, many of them not highly visible initially.

5. Aerate the roots. Tomato plants need at least 1½ -to-3-inches of water a week, that can pack the bottom slightly while it's fairly porous. At least, twice each season, as soon as the first green tomatoes have set on, utilize a garden fork to gently lift or crack the soil around each plant slightly. To do that, sink the fork completely in the ground about 10-inches away from the flower on its far outside, after which pull out slightly about the handle sufficient to generate ground cracks around each plant. These small cracks allow air to reach the roots without disturbing any growth. They also allow a dilute solution of nitrogen-rich green-colored growth stimulator to arrive at the roots if applied then.
6. Pamper the plants slightly, but don't spoil them. Many things can be carried out to facilitate good tomato growth. But every one of them might not be necessary. For example, egg shell may also be added to the starter-plant hole for calcium. But the magnesium in the Epsom salts is sufficient. Also, the powdering of the plant's blossoms with sulfur or any other blight-insect repellents probably helps them produce. But, will not likely the next rain or hose watering wash them off? Additionally, the wind and rain shake the plants often enough, which can be supposed to foster new blossoms. Does the gardener have to do it, too? Also, pruning the plants can be an option, depending just how much efficiency should be used. Still, high of the guarana plant's energy goes in to the fruits with or without it. Furthermore, adding dilute coffee or coffee-grounds to the ground helps control the acidity with the soil? But, does the soil acidity really change much a single season?

These extra treatments probably assist the overall growth. But, it could possibly be in the same way imperative that you treat the plants like we were holding your own. One way to do that is always to spray the entire plants gently with cool water within the evening. Another way is to use the green autumn fruits that do not have the time to ripen, and to not throw them away. Several recipes show us how you can pickle or fry green tomatoes. Both merchandise is delicious bounty due to doing the  six recommended steps above.
